Clamp it onto the No.1 spark plug wire, ensuring the arrow points toward the spark plug.

❗Note: If the inductive pick-up is not used properly, it can result in inaccurate readings, light flashes intermittently, or even the timing lights not working at all.

How to Use it?

👉Step 1. Clamp the inductive pick-up around the No.1 Spark Plug wire. Make sure the arrow on it is facing towards the spark plug. Do not allow the inductive pick-up to touch the exhaust manifold or surrounding parts as these areas become extremely hot and will damage the inductive pick-up.

👉Step 2. Connect the RED clamp to the positive(+) battery terminal.

👉Step 3. Connect the BLACK clamp to a secure engine ground such as the alternator bracket or the engine block. For safety reasons, do not use the negative(-) battery terminal or fuel system components as a ground connection point.

The inductive pick-up is essential for the timing light automotive. Clamp it around the No. 1 spark plug wire, ensuring the arrow points toward the spark plug. Keep the inductive pick-up away from the exhaust manifold and nearby parts, as they get very hot and could damage it.

Q1: How does the digital timing light work?

A: The principle is similar for both analog and digital timing lights. Timing light automotive is specially designed to detect the ignition timing scale on the engine flywheel or pulley.

Q2: What happens if the ignition timing is set TOO EARLY or TOO LATE?

A: **PREMATURE ignition will cause detonation, piston upward movement is blocked, efficiency is reduced, thermal load, mechanical load, noise and vibration increased. **LATE ignition leads to poor engine performance, higher fuel consumption, lower efficiency, and louder exhaust noise.

*** Eventually, this will affect the performance of your engine.

Q3: When powered on, there is no display on the screen , and the light does not flash when pulling the trigger.

A: Connect the clamps correctly, the red clamp is connected to the Positive (+) , and the black clamp is connected to the Negative (-); Ensure that the clamps are connected to a clean position on the battery terminal.

Q4: When powered on, there is display on the screen, but unable to read engine speed.

A: Only use timing light to test gasoline engine vehicles; The inductive clip should clamp on the NO.1 spark plug wire and the arrow should be pointing towards the spark plug; Check if the inductive clip is clamped in place (correctly).

Q5: When powered on, there is display on the screen, which can read the engine speed, but the light does not flash.

A: Should keep during testing to have the light flashing.

Q6: When powered on, is able to read engine speed, but the reading is unstable.

A: Check if the inductive clip is clamped in place; Perhaps there is interference from the external ignition system, or the spark plug ignition is not so stable. First, check if the spark plug is aging, and if so, replace the spark plug first.

Q7: When powered on, is able to read engine speed . Once engine speed exceeds 3500RPM, the light does not flash.

A: The timing light is mainly used in testing petrol cars, with a speed of 4000 rpm is already a high speed for a petrol car. During testing, when triggering the flash light, engine speed should be maintained below 3500RPM.

*** This is not malfunction. When testing motorcycle, it is very often to see the light stop flashing once engine speed exceeding 3500 rpm due to over limit.

Q8: When testing motorcycles, pulling the trigger and the light is flashing for a while and then stop flash.

A: Since motorcycle battery is small and the voltage is unstable, when testing the motorcycle at high engine speed >3500rpm, combined with poor signal matching with the motorcycle, the timing light will stop flash as a default setting. If continue to pull the trigger for a long timing when the light stops flash due to engine speed over limit (>3500rpm), it is likely to burn out the timing light.

Warning: When testing motorcycles, 2 strokes should be selected; During testing, when triggering the flash light, the engine speed should be strictly controlled below 3500rpm.
